In the Hot Seat: Pippa Evans

23 Jul

Photograph of Pippa EvansClose your eyes and picture Edinburgh. What do you see?

Me and my comedy pals eating haggis in City Restaurant, digesting the day’s comedy going on.

What is the last thing that made you snort with laughter?

Myself and Ruth Bratt (Glenda J, Showstopper) doing an improvised scene about career newts. It was so sublime in its ridiculousness I snorted in Ruth’s face.

Tell us about this year’s show.

It is like if you put me, Brian Conley and Sandi Toksvig in a blender, added a band and covered it with sequins. Also a lot of winking.

Who do you want to see this year?

Ummmmmmm, Peter and Bambi Heaven, Jamie Wood and anything by the American High School Musical Festival. They deliver those performances with jazz hands like you have never seen.

Do you have any Edinburgh Fringe traditions?

I always have an Irn Bru before every show and Gaz the security guard at the Pleasance reminds me of the time I got very drunk in 2006.

What is your getting ready music?

Oooh Shake it Off by Taylor Swift and Bette Midler singing Friends (not the theme tune to the sitcom). Also a Ru Paul track will get thrown in, such as Can I Get An Amen?

If you could have any guest in your show, who would it be?

Brian Conley. We’d sing Hushaby Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and then do a tap routine.

What is the best backhanded compliment you have had?

It was my husband who said ‘do you ever worry you sing too much?’

Who made you howl with laughter when you were a child?

Me and my brothers used to watch black and white Jerry Lewis movies. We loved him and his slapstick ways. We also loved Laurel and Hardy and Lee Evans.

What should Donald Trump know?

Anything would be a start.

What do you do in Edinburgh that your parents wouldn´t approve of?

Go to bed early and not drink alcohol.

Catch Pippa Evans: Joy Provision! at 2.40pm at the Pleasance throughout August. You can also see her as part of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical at the Pleasance.
